Food cooperatives bring us organic, local, and ethically sourced food. They support local farmers and are a sustainable alternative to large supermarket chains. Food cooperatives aim to fundamentally reorganize the supply chain of our food system in an ecological responsible and sustainable way.

Sounds good, but what exactly does it mean to be a food cooperative? How can it work to set up a new cooperative; what challenges can occur within such process? And what is it like to be an entrepreneur in the sustainable food industry?
We invite you to explore theses, and many more, questions with us in an informal and cosy discussion on food cooperatives on Wednesday (the 11th) from 19.30 to 21.00h at Gedeelde Weelde!

Maastricht is home to these two lovely food cooperatives:
~~~ ´Gedeelde Weelde´ is Maastricht’s first cooperative shop for daily groceries set up by and for its community. ~~~
~~~ ´FoodCoop Maastricht´ is a student-run non-profit cooperative which aims to provide high quality food at an affordable price. ~~~

Four members of these food cooperatives are happy to share their experiences in the field. The following entrepreneurs and students will share their stories and insights and will answer questions from you:

* Dominique Sleijpen (co-founder & entrepreneur Gedeelde Weelde)
* Misjél Lemmens (co-founder & entrepreneur Gedeelde Weelde)
* Malte Bantz (active member of FoodCoop Maastricht)
* Theo Lange (active member & treasurer of FoodCoop Maastricht)

And rest assured, Gedeelde Weelde will provide us with some yummy organic snacks and drinks to stay well nurtured during our conversational gathering!
